The Glass Door Creates New Brunch Menu with Neighborhood Delicacies

Friday, July 2, 2010

The Glass Door at The Porto Vista Hotel has recreated the brunch menu laden with hints of Mediterranean and European inspiration. The inventive brunch menu concept, offered Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes dishes featuring heartwarming, good, honest fare using mainly fresh, seasonal and local products.

“The new menu draws inspiration from the very best local products found right in Porto Vista’s quaint Little Italy location,” said Greg Keebler, general manager of the Porto Vista. “The Glass Door is proud to support the neighboring community, and those that frequent Little Italy might recognize a few locally celebrated items as well as fresh ingredients from the Mercato farmer’s market.”

The Glass Door will be serving up diverse brunch dishes such as the: Croque Tartiflette, a grilled French sandwich with Black Forest Ham, Potato and Reblochon Cheese with Cavillon Melon and Basil ($13); “Amy’s Hang Over Burger” a Meyer Ranch Angus Burger with Confit Onion, Pancetta Ring, Sunny Side Up Egg and Truffle Aioli ($14); and House Cured Salmon Blinis, with Chive Crème Fraiche, Fried Capers, Pickled Shallots and Fennel ($16). Classic breakfast items such as The Glass Door Special includes two eggs any style with skillet potatoes, toast and the choice of bacon or chicken sausage ($12).

For some genuine local flavor, the new Buttermilk Biscuits & Gravy dish ($9) is made with Little Italy’s renowned “Pete’s” Italian sausage. The neighborhood favorite has been making the best and most authentic Italian sausage for decades. The Glass Door also pours coffee from Caffe CaLabria, situated in San Diego’s North Park and one of the finest coffee roasters on the West Coast. The café’s rainforest blend of Indonesian and Central American organic beans, roasted right here in San Diego, is the perfect accompaniment for the new brunch items.

For those needing more than coffee for their morning pick-me-up, sunrise cocktails will also be offered including: The Glass Door Summer Fizz made with Peaches, Strawberries and Sparkling Wine ($3);  the classic Bloody Mary with a Spicy Cajun Tomato Blend and Vodka ($6); and the Morning Mojito, mixed with Rum Mint and Cucumber with a splash of Sprite ($5).
