Mister A's Taps Spirited Mixologist to Create Crafty New Cocktails

Bertrand at Mister A’s is shaking things up with the addition of mixologist and bar consultant, Shawn Barker. A veteran of the food service industry, Barker has created a crafty new cocktail menu showcasing the local flavor and flair of San Diego. The recently debuted cocktail menu, features classic, signature and skinny drinks made with seasonal ingredients and top-shelf spirits.
“I’m honored and excited to be joining Mister A’s highly acclaimed team,” said Barker. “This new position gives me the opportunity to further develop my craft while working alongside some of the most respected individuals in the San Diego restaurant scene. The cocktails will be a great compliment to Bertrand Hug’s personally selected and award-winning wine list.”
Highlights of the new cocktail menu include the 5th Avenue Cocktail prepared with Hendrick’s Gin, cucumber, dill syrup, green chartreuse and fresh lime; the Hemingway Daiquiri prepared with Matusalem Rum, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, fresh lime and grapefruit; the Pomegranate Paradise prepared with Stolichnaya Vodka, stirrings of Pomegranate Liqueur, Disaronno Amaretto, orange juice and sour mix; and the Sweet Devil with El Jimador Tequila, Ginger Syrup, Crème de Cassis and fresh lime.
A native San Diegan, Barker has been in the food service industry for 13 years. He has excelled in all aspects of the restaurant business, starting as a busser and working his way up to bar manager and mixologist. His career experience has included stints at Las Vegas hot spots; including Caramel and Light at Bellagio Resort, Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay Resort and Ice Nightclub that was featured on Spike TV’s hit show, “The Club.”
Barker began his career with Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group at Chinois in Caesar’s Palace where he started designing custom cocktails for the company. He then went on to Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and relocated to Los Angeles to open the Wolfgang Puck at L.A. Live. As a bar consultant, Barker has created bar menus for Spago, Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill, WP24, CUT and Chinois, as well as many other restaurants in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego.
